Boao Forum : China’s eco-policy and budding ‘greenization’

    Environmental protection and 'greenization'are among the most discussed topics at this year’s Boao Foum for Asia (BFA), which opened on March 26 in Hainan Province.

Issues such as smog and health, water safety and soil contamination, as well as pollution control through severe punishment, have all produced heated discussions and drawn widespread attention at the event.

Two days ahead of the BFA, the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee approved the document On Accelerating Ecological Civilization Construction, which for the first time promotes the idea of “greenization.”

The concept stresses the importance of eco-policy in the development of economics, politics, society and culture to achieve the simultaneous promotion of new industrialization, urbanization, informatization, agricultural modernization and greenization.

The highly-visible document at the BFA forum also tackles environmental protection issues.

Since the two sessions in early March, ecological and environmental protection has proven to be important concerns among the public. The BFA offers another chance to highlight China’s environmental protection efforts. (People’s Daily)
