‘Community of common destiny,’ ‘Belt and Road’ focal points at Boao Forum

      The four-day 2015 Boao Forum for Asia closed on March 29. Notable topics discussed included building “a community of common destiny,” China’s “Belt and Road” initiatives, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), smog and health, and the relationship between government officials and businessmen.

      At the opening plenary on March 28, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech titled “Towards a Community of Common Destiny and A New Future for Asia,” which won applause from the audience.

“Belt and Road” and the AIIB were the focal points of the annual conference. Xi elaborated on the “Belt and Road” initiatives in his keynote speech. Four sub-forums tackled “Belt and Road” issues and two focused on the AIIB.

Regional cooperation has always been an important topic at the annual Boao Forum. At this year’s forum, several discussions on regional cooperation were held, such as “Jointly Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road & Launching Ceremony of the Year of China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation” and “ASEAN Community: A Major Milestone for Asian Integration”, reflecting the rapid development of regional cooperation in recent years.

Entrepreneurs are the main attendees of the Boao Forum. This year’s Boao not only provided opportunities for entrepreneurs to participate in bilateral dialogues such as Australia-China Bilateral CEO Dialogue, US-China Bilateral CEO Dialogue and Russia-China Bilateral CEO Dialogue, but also held many sessions on enterprise development.

Social livelihood was another highlighted topic. Participants discussed food safety, smog and health, and explored how to solve common problems through cooperation.

      “The Boao Forum is a virtual platform for ‘Asia’s confidence’ and a symbol of a united Asia,” lauded media, adding that “this year’s Boao Forum is set to be extraordinary.” (People’s Daily)
